Enzymes and Their Affect on Animals
We've discussed how enzymes can work in the human body to relieve many of the conditions that plague our overall health. Now, we will show you how these same enzymes affect animals, ranging from horses to household pets, like cats and dogs.
Enzymes circulate throughout the blood stream scouring for EBP's that can cause pain and delayed onset muscle soreness caused by inflammation. These enzymes are activated at just a few degrees above normal body temperature. Injured and inflamed areas produce heat during the healing process, activating these enzymes at precisely the point of injury.
For some time now, Glucosamine and Chondroitin have been touted as the next best thing to prescription medications for joint problems. While these products may increase mobility, they do little to nothing for blocking pain. In fact, their only function is to provide the "building blocks" necessary to facilitate lubrication between connective joints. Lubricating inflamed joints can provide some pain relief, but limited relief at best. Neprofin AVF, an enzyme feed supplement from Arthur Andrew Medical, takes an entirely different physiological path in the healing process, by alleviating joint inflammation altogether. Its unique blend of highly concentrated systemic enzymes is an excellent choice for animal suffering from joint pain, inflammation and ideal for decreasing injury recovery times. It is also effective for active, athletic animals to ensure a prompt recovery from soreness and inflammation due to over-activity.
This type of treatment also offers an alternative remedy for equine (horse) injuries previously treated with Bute. Bute is one of the most common pain relievers administered to horses. However, it has been observed to be very destructive to the liver and kidneys while negatively impacting white blood cell counts. Gastrointestinal problems, ulcers, and aplastic anemia are also quite common with continued use of the drug. Unlike Bite, Neprofin does not block Cox enzymes to suppress inflammation and pain. It can also decrease pain by inhibiting the release of bradykinin and other factors from inflamed or damaged tissue. It should also be noted that Neprofin is considered safe and can be used without the supervision of a licensed veterinarian.

What is Fibrin?
Fibrin is a protein formed in the human body that can significantly impact our health and general well-being. Fibrin is documented to be responsible for scar tissue, thrombus formation and inflammation along with its associated pain.
Systemic enzyme formulas, like Neprinol AFD by Arthur Andrew Medical, contain a blend of enzymes that specifically address fibrin levels in the body. The inherent fibrin removal process is accomplished by naturally occurring enzymes in the body, principally plasmin. Plasmin is an important enzyme, present in the blood, that degrades many blood plasma proteins, most notably fibrin clots. The degradation of fibrin is termed fibrinolysis. Plasmin is also our own natural blood thinner responsible for maintaining normal blood solvency by removing unnecessary accumulated protein. The normal process of fibrinolysis can be enhanced by introducing fibrinolytic (fibrin lysing) enzymes.
Serrapeptase is an exceptional fibrinolytic enzyme, able to digest and liquefy large amounts of fibrotic scar tissue. This dissolved tissue may accumulate over time, thickening the blood, making it necessary to include the potent enzyme Nattokinase. This enzyme, produced by bacillus Natto, is actually much more potent than plasmin itself and will help modulate blood viscosity by dissolving these lysed tissue cells.

Are You Lactose Intolerant?
A healthy body produces enzymes in sufficient quantities to ensure proper digestion of most foods. However, some people do not produce sufficient quantities of these enzymes, and often get the common symptoms of indigestion such as gas, bloating, heartburn and constipation. In such cases, supplementing the natural enzymes secreted by our body promotes optimal digestion and can relieve many of the symptoms of indigestion.
People who are lactose intolerant can typically experience stomach bloating, gas, cramps and diarrhea after ingesting dairy products. Symptoms usually appear 30 minutes to 2 hours after eating, and vary by individual and the type/quantity of dairy foods consumed. Devacor, by Arthur Andrew Medical, contains a highly potent lactase enzyme to assist the body with digesting these foods. When taking lactase-digesting enzymes like those in Devacor, you should take it with the first bite of the dairy product for maximum effectiveness. Taking it too soon or too far after consuming dairy reduces the product's ability to interact with the dairy products in the digestive tract.

Reduce Injury Recovery Time and More with Serrapeptase!
Serrapeptase, a powerful proteolytic (protein-digesting) enzyme, has been shown to effectively reduce injury recovery times, and even reduce swelling up to 5 times faster than ice alone!
Serrapeptase (aka Serratiopeptidase) was originally discovered in the intestine of silkworms, and is the enzyme that allows the emerging moth to digest its cocoon. This inherent ability to digest dead tissue enables the enzyme to work as a natural anti-inflammatory that can aid in dissolving scar tissue, cysts, blood clots, and arterial plaque.
Like other proteolytic enzymes, Serrapeptase serves as a healthy alternative to conventional medicines, which may have detrimental effects on various organs, including the liver and kidneys. It also allows for more normal fluid regulation and natural blood flow throughout the body. Typically, in America, when we aren't healthy, we go to a doctor. The doctor prescribes a medicine for us to take, but this medicine only gets rid of the symptoms...it does not get rid of the problem. For example, people with arterial plaque build-up will go to their physician, who will most likely prescribe some type of anti-coagulant (blood-thinner). Aside from the fact that most of these medications can CAUSE more side effects than you had with the original health issue (we've all seen the commercials!), they are only going to thin the blood, so it travels around the plaque more freely. But what about the plaque? Your body doesn't need thinner blood...your body needs to get rid of the plaque!
The same can be said of NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs), like aspirin, ibuprofen, etc.. They may do an effective job of masking the pain and inflammation of an injury, however, just masking the symptoms may only prolong recovery. The use of enzymes, like Serrapeptase, provides a better choice and is more conducive to increasing the speed of recovery. Serrapeptase works by digesting any dead tissue that may accumulate as a result of an injury, thereby reducing swelling and pain while enhancing one's ability to heal. NSAIDS may also have unwanted and detrimental side effects, such as gastrointestinal damage. Serrapeptase may actually aid a person's gastrointestinal tract by helping to better break down proteins (it is a proteolytic enzyme after all!) and therefore improve overall digestion.
So why isn't Serrapeptase prescribed and used more regularly? Well, it is...just not in America. In Europe and Asia, the overall use of systemic enzymes has been far more widespread than in the United States. This is not due to lack of effectiveness of enzymes, but has more to do with each respective healthcare system. In Germany, for example, systemic enzymes have been actively used for decades and are even used by the German National Hockey team in order to treat and prevent injuries.

Changes in the Syntol Formulation
A letter from Arthur Andrew Medical:
Arthur Andrew is pleased to announce the arrival of our newest Syntol formulation. Our objective with this product has and continues to be, to provide the most powerful enzyme yeast cleanse and blend of probiotics available. Though we did not feel that there was anything lacking from our currently distributed formula, we did feel that we could easily improve upon it. It has and will always be our goal to provide the most potent and clinically effective products available, and change is often the only way to achieve and maintain that goal. However, you will notice that these particular changes were quite simple. Simply put, we removed everything that did not directly contribute to the product's main objective, such as: Alfalfa, Papaya Juice Powder, Ionic Minerals, and Amla. In their place, we were able to greatly increase the potency of our enzyme yeast cleanse, as well as the probiotic blend (from 3 billion to 3.4 billion CFU's per capsule). We also replaced the FOS prebiotic with inulin, which we found to be a more suitable prebiotic in this formula. Our spore-forming probiotic strain is B. subtilis, which is highly shelf-stable and now the most abundant strain in the formula.
On our new supplement facts panel, you may notice that we have increased the serving size from one to four capsules. This is due to our efforts to comply with the ever-changing labeling guidelines for dietary supplements. Per our dosage instructions on the label, 1 to 4 capsules should be taken three times daily between meals. To comply with labeling guidelines, our serving size listed on the supplement facts panel must be the maximum recommended dosage, therefore four capsules is now listed as opposed to one. We appreciate your business and value you as a client, so we are always open for suggestions on ways we can improve our products and service.
Thank you,
Daniel E. Curtain
COO

The Truth About Neprinol...straight from the source
As you may (or may not) know, there are a lot of damaging things being said and written about Neprinol...one of our top-selling products, and what we believe to be the finest enzyme-based formula in the industry. As an authorized distributor of Neprinol since its inception, we do our best to stay informed and proactively seek out the answers to the questions that many of us have. The worst part about the entire situation is that it's confusing for you, the customer, who is trying to make the best purchase decision to assist with your health concerns...and when you're dealing with the high-priced enzyme industry, you want to make sure you're getting the biggest bang for your buck!
The following is an excerpt from a longer letter that we received from Arthur Andrew Medical. It was written by Justin Marsh, the President and Owner of Arthur Andrew Medical, the makers of Neprinol.
"Upon further investigation, we discovered Serracor-NK was being made to directly compete with our enzyme formula, Neprinol. Two of the main ingredients of Neprinol are the enzymes Nattokinase and Serrapeptase, which were only available as a blend marketed under the tradename SEBkinaseTM when we sourced our ingredients from Specialty Enzymes, in Chino, CA, whose parent company resides in India. The benefit of having these two enzymes mixed together in a blend is of little consequence to the effectiveness of the overall formula...there is just novelty in the fact that the blend is trademarked. It is easy to distinguish the quality of enzymes simply by testing them for activity. We voluntarily quit buying SEBkinaseTM due to sub-par customer service and inconsistencies in quality from Specialty Enzymes. Specialty Enzymes' products were also overpriced, and their President insisted on continually raising our prices. Arthur Andrew already empathized with its customers, and refused to extend these price increases to them during a recession. Another quality issue that Arthur Andrew encountered was that Specialty Enzymes was also particularly secretive about their quality control and testing methods. As a customer, we demand to know exactly what we are getting in our products. We found it especially difficult to provide quality control paperwork that is required for customs in many countries like Canada and Australia. Specialty Enzymes complained constantly when asked to fill out simple quality forms, something that our other vendors provide us with regularly.
As a leader in the enzyme industry, Arthur Andrew Medical will continue to strive to improve our products as advances in research and technology are continually being made, and will advise our clients as much to avoid any misrepresentations by competitors."
At Southwest Nutraceuticals, we know it's our job to keep our customers informed with any new information that we obtain regarding the products that we carry. If you have any more questions or concerns, you can contact us at 1-800-959-8872.
